#23 The End

Well I have finally reached the end. I found it both stressful and enjoyable. As anyone reading my blog would have picked up I am not the most computer literate person in the world and tend to use what I need to use, however, I have appreciated the opportunity to look at web2.0 and learn from it. I don't know If I will go back to many of the sites but I enjoyed making and adding to my blog, I enjoyed #10 and the pictures which can be made(I made the site a favourite for my kids to use), I liked Flicka, I got into YouTube and may work with the kids to post our own doggie video on it, but I still think it is a big timewaster.

Anyway Thankyou to the State Library and the team for running web2.0 and giving us the chance to realise that these things exist. I would like to do it all again in the future as I feel that I will be more comfortable with the technology on offer.

# 9 Finding Feeds (which I had missed)

I used bloglines to find feed on both Kevin Rudd and Jennifer Hawkins and added them to my bloglines account. It was not too hard even though I did the RSS feeds thing weeks ago and had forgotten about.

#22 Audiobooks

What a great service. There are so many titles to choose from. They didn't seem to work for me at home but I don't know if I have the right programs on my computer and do not own a MP3 player. It certainly provides users with a range of titles in I think I read 100 languages. That could be a way for libraries to provide other language audiobooks for their users.

#21 Podcasts, Smodcasts

I could only get one podcast to work for me, and I lost that one as I went on to try other podcasts. I hate to admit it but i will have to get my husband to try and get the podcasts to work, as most of the learning 2.0 podcasts have not been working either.

#20 You too can YouTube

#20 You too can YouTube

As you can see I have successfully managed to put a YouTube video into my blog. I found YouTube had too many items at first and did not know what to look at, but I searched for "puppies" because my daughter loves puppies and we spent the next 1/2hour watching very cute puppy videos. I have posted our favourite.

#19 discovering Web 2.0 Tools

I tried the games categorey of the tools as my son loves computer games. He had a look with me and said the games where good but that he had played some of them before at other sites.

#18 Web Based Apps.

This looks like quite an interesting program and concept. I like the fact that it is available online and that others can edit or add to it as you go. The tool bar is more comprehensive and it does seem to do most of what word does. Mind you i don't think I would use it at this stage and the spellcheck is not working as I have made quite a few typing errors and none of them have come up. Will try and insert a few things.

I like the smiley faces!!!

I can't make the speach bubbles bigger, why?

Unfortunately I can not get the text to post to my blog and as a result I had to cut and paste. This lost both the smiley faces and the speach bubbles.

#17 PBWiki

I added my blog to PBWiki with very little trouble. Cool!

more of #10 at the request of my daughters

Item # 10 again - slide show which I just found out how to create

#16 Wiki

I have only used Wikipedia before and find it useful even though I know it should not be used for academic studies. If the use of library wikis is a good idea, they provide an excellent format for bookreviews etc. I thought that fact that SJCPL sugjects guides can only be edited by librarians to be a good thing as it makes the information on it more reliable. I also thought the library success wiki was great, particularly as it allowed librarians from around the world to interact and share information.

#15 Library 2.0 & web 2.0

I am currently studying to become a librarian and recently went on a study tour of a number of libraries in Melbourne. I found it really interesting. It opened my eyes up to the range of library work available as well as the diversity in library services. The whole idea of web 2.0 and library 2.0 came up during these tours particularly at the State library which is working on the provision of the latest in technology, especially for children.

I therefore related to the article away from the icebergs because some of the points he mentioned struck a chord with me. The first was the concept of keeping and storing items just for the sake of it as at CAVAL and the state library. I am not a hoarder and like to get rid of things that are not needed anymore. I know this is dangerous and prehaps not good library policy but I tend to agree with the author that we may no longer have to collect everything "just in case". I also agree that library services need to be easy to use and logical so that patrons can access them without needing assistance. I also agreed with the last point that we need to intergrate library services into society so that they are still seen as relevant, which they are.

#14 Technorati

I don't think technorate is a web 2.0 feature I would use as I am not really interested in reading peoples blogs. We have enough information to take in, how do people keep up with it all and spend hours on their computers looking at blogs as well. Clearly other people love them though as shown when you go into popular blogs, thousands of people have their favourites.

#13 Del.icio.us

I liked del.icio.us and can see that it would be useful for research etc, however I am a bit short for time and have not had a really good play with it.

#12 Rollyo

I quite liked Rollyo. I can see that it could be really useful for research not only at home but in the work context as well. I set up search rolls for news, recipes and parenting. The link to my page is http://www.rollyo.com/index.html.

#11 Library Thing

I found library thing easy to use and added five of my favourite childrens books to my library. I don't think this is something I would use at home because I do not buy a lot of books - I work in a library!!! Anyway the link is http://www.librarything.com/catalog/cazza67.

#10 picture

#10 - image generator

I created a picture using image generator but can not get it to copy into my blog. I took a road sign and wrote "It's a long road but I am getting there!". I am not sure how to link it, but I did make it.

Frustrated!!!
